Is He Worth Dating: A Cautionary Tale

I’m a sucker for romantic comedies. I especially love the ones where the woman is clearly blind and doesn’t see that he’s the one. Open your eyes, lady! He’s everything you want and need…and more! Can’t you see that he’s madly in love with you? ARE YOU EVEN PAYING ATTENTION?! And then, when she finally realizes that the man of her dreams is right in front of her, I just want to start throwing up some praise hands. I mean, can I get an AMEN? 🙌

How many of you wish that real life was like a romantic comedy? There ain’t no shame – I’m married and I’m still raising my hand. If real life was like a romantic comedy, it would have saved me a lot of heartache and unhappiness. I could have skipped those horrible years with the wrong guys and spent 10 wonderful years with my stud husband. The five years before I started dating Ryan were some of the worst, but they shaped me into who I am today.

The women who have changed my life

The women who have changed my life — and how you can change someone else’s life too.

by Julia Robison

I’m gonna set the stage for you: Imagine 8th grade Julia.

(Oh gosh, had to go deep in the Facebook archives for this photo… you are welcome.)

So this 8th grader is at a church retreat and she “falls in love” with one of the church staff. (No, this is not real love, but to an 8th grader this is a HUGE DEAL.) She finds out that this leader has a very serious girlfriend…and SHE IS CRUSHED.

Another leader on the trip — a sophmore in high school — comes and listens to her, sits with her as she cries, and then makes her laugh when she thinks she will never laugh again.

That started much more than a friendship; it also sparked a love for getting to know women who are a few steps ahead of me in life.

Role Models and Mentors are some of the greatest gifts that God has placed on the earth — although, granted a very different type of gift than donuts or coffee.

What Singleness & Surfing Have in Common

by Julia Robison

On Tuesdays I have just one class in the morning — and it doesn’t start until 11. So to treat myself, I wake up naturally, eat yummy oatmeal, and catch up on the Bachelor.

I know, I know, many of you probably think that the Bachelor is a terrible show … and to be honest, I do not disagree with you. But I can’t stop watching it! It has become so addictive. My friends and I like to cuddle up on the couch with whatever snacks we are feeling, and we cannot stop laughing at all the ridiculous things the girls say or do.

This show really helps me feel so smart for choosing to stay single.

I am a 20-year-old going to a Christian university that seems very focused on relationships and this concept of “Ring by Spring.” My friends and I like to have “raw like almond” conversations (as I like to call them) about the deep desire to be in a relationship, and the way we are wrestling with the Lord, trying to figure out His purpose in our singleness.

I think many of us struggle with the desire to be in relationship, wondering when it will happen, and yet still honoring the Lord through the season we’re in. If you are in that stage, I AM RIGHT THERE WITH YOU. And here’s what I’ve been learning…

What I’ve learned about LOVE in my first 4 months of marriage

by Alyssa Kuiken

Okay, here’s my confession: I’ve only been married for FOUR months. So I’m thinking I’m not quite an expert on the subject.

In fact, I know I am absolutely a work in progress when it comes to the role of being a wife. But I also know this, I LOVE being my husband’s wife.

Before I started writing, I sat here listening to the audio CD from our wedding ceremony. In other words, I sat at home in our quaint little apartment sobbing. Don’t ask me why I didn’t sob like that on our wedding day. I think I was too nervous and excited to fully grasp all that was being said. On that beautiful fall day in October, we made a covenant with God and with each other to honor, cherish, and LOVE one another “till death do us part.”

That is not a small commitment. That is a lifelong, in sickness and in health, for better or for worse commitment. A commitment to walk alongside one another “till death do us part.”

Four months is a short amount of time. But to say I haven’t learned anything about marriage in four months would be a lie.

In fact, when it comes to loving someone, I think I’ve learned more in these four months than I have in the last 27 years of my life.

So I thought I would share just a few (four to be exact- one for each month of marriage) of the lessons I’ve been learning about LOVE through marriage to my sweet husband, Rick.

Confessions of a Single Girl

by Peyton Goss

Being single in middle school didn’t seem like a big deal.

I remember sleepovers with friends, talking about the perfect guy we’d meet in college, and what our dream wedding would be like. In fact, dating didn’t even cross my mind in middle school, because, of course, I would meet “the one” when I got to college…

Fast forward to sophomore year of high school, and suddenly the thought of “waiting until college to date” had completely escaped my mind. I thought I had found my high school sweetheart and began to dream about our future.

But I didn’t just spend my time dreaming; I also spent it justifying the red flags I saw in my relationship. It took awhile, but eventually I stopped justifying. It was an incredibly tough decision, but I decided to end the relationship.

At the time, I couldn’t believe I was actually doing that! But now, months later, I have grown to appreciate being single, even when it’s not easy.

Part of me wished I had waited until college to date, and wanted to live in regret, but I’ve gained a greater appreciation for the time I have in front of me to be single. And today I’d love to share a few of the things I’ve learned so far!

To the single girls…

by Tiffany Dawn

If you’ve ever wondered if something was wrong with you…

…or wondered if you’ll ever fall in love…

…or if your heart cried over all the adventures you’ll have to tell your husband about someday, instead of make with him…

I’ve been there.

This is my story: How God turned my single 20s into one of the sweetest seasons of my life, and how He can do the same for you.

I hope my story can encourage you.
With love,
Tiffany Dawn

When Dreams Seem a Long Time in Coming…

by Kimmie Plummer

“He has made everything beautiful in its time.” – Ecclesiastes 3:11

This verse sits framed on a shelf in my kitchen — a constant reminder that God provides everything at the right time…even if it’s not my timing.

img_2055Before I go any further, let me tell you a few things about myself. My name is Kimmie and I am a coffee-obsessed, Jesus-loving wife and mother.

By day, you can find me working with companies to help them create training and development programs for their managers and employees. At night, I moonlight as an entertainer and comedy act for the cutest little boy on the planet.

My husband is a pretty awesome guy (if I do say so myself) and we live a normal, perfectly imperfect life together.

But I have a confession: I’m a control freak.
