“I want you to give $1,000 to your friend’s mission organization.”

I shook my head and squirmed a little inside. That wasn’t God. No way. He knew what my bank account held, and it wasn’t $1K!

How Suffering Has Become a Gift

Suffering is a catalyst.

Recently I’ve heard several people make comments like this: “God hates sickness.” “God does not promote suffering.”

Maybe that’s true. A few years ago I would have said, “Amen.” But now…I’m starting to wonder if we miss something huge when we believe that. If we miss the power of Christ in us when we suffer with Him.

I’ve spent my life so afraid of suffering.

Trying to avoid it at all costs. Only to discover…it can also be beautiful. In such an unexpected way.

Summer Book List for the Christian Girl

And my heart responds…

“My heart has heard you say, ‘Come and talk with me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’” (Psalm 27:8, NLT)

Until tonight, I’d never heard Psalm 27:8 in the NLT translation. It stole my breath away.

We’d been talking in Bible study about what it would look like — in our everyday lifestyle — to be “all in” for God.

And then we read that verse.

So many times I hear God calling, but I say, “I’m busy, Lord.” “Lord, look at all the things I have to do still!”
