Comparison does not make you feel better about yourself. It doesn’t change anything! Comparison is unhealthy but it is something that too many of us do. How do we stop comparing ourselves? How to Eat Your Way Beautiful

We’ve all heard how important it is to eat out fruits and vegetables (for most of us, from nagging/loving parents). But did you know produce is also good for your skin? Indeed, studies have shown that eating enough fruits and veggies over eight weeks can lead to healthier skin, fight wrinkles and other signs of aging! (Om nom nom, “no way!”)

Seriously though, and it’s all thanks to the effect of lycopene (a plant nutrient especially high in tomatoes) and polyphenols (a type of plant nutrient found in grapes, peanuts, tea and even wine). These mighty food compounds may boost your arteries’ elasticity and your skin’s health.

#RealTalk – I Also Hate Scales

Before I write this post, I would like to clarify a few things:

1. This post is meant to be an encouragement and inspiration, it is NOT to toot my own horn.

2. I’m not bashing weekly weigh-ins or denying that a scale can be a good tool.

3. I’m not looking for a million compliments or haters.

Ok… now that you have some guidelines…

Sometimes I think that people believe that trainers are above the daily fitness and self-image struggles that seem to plague the rest of the world.

My trainer never wants/eats/craves junk food. FALSE. 

My trainer never gets tired. ABSOLUTELY FALSE. 

My trainer must love his or her body all the time. A COMPLETE LIE.

Show me a trainer who has never once struggled with body image and I will gladly invest in some training sessions with them. I could use that kind of mental resiliency.

But the truth is we struggle. We doubt. We criticize ourselves. We roll our eyes. We sigh. We avoid mirrors. We obsess about the scale.

Hi friends!

For any of you who are young women, or who know young women — this is for you and for them!

Please feel free to pass along these links so your friends and daughters can access these free resource collections. They’re especially created for Christian girls ages 12-23 — although they can certainly be encouraging to others as well.

I’m SO EXCITED about these — let me tell you why!

First, Body Image Resource Page:

Girls often ask how I worked through my struggles with body image and disordered eating. Well, they now have a WHOLE WEBPAGE of resources — let alone my book!

Here I’ve developed a page of tips, advice, and resources for struggles with body image and eating disorders here — including how to help a friend through these things. A lot of them are videos I’ve made, or other people have made.


Second, Relationship Advice Page:

I also get lots of emails and questions about relationships. How do you enjoy being single? How do you know if a guy is a good person to date? So…here you are!

This is a whole page of tips, advice, and resources on dating relationships, friendship, saving sex for marriage, singleness, and more!


Lastly, Main Resource Page:

This page focuses on the most important thing of all: how to grow a relationship with God. It has tips for Bible study, practical ways to refocus your mind on the Lord, and more.

This page also talks about other struggles like anxiety.

My Insecurity Onion: Why I’m thankful for insecurity

I’m planted here in a rose-colored diner, bordering NJ and PA. My husband is off at a business meeting, so I’m sipping tea, eating hash browns, digging into a Beth Moore Bible study, and thinking about insecurity.

Insecurity has been like an onion in my life.

It comes with layer after eye-stinging layer…and keeps coming.

Ever since I can remember, I’ve battled insecurity. For years it was insecurity over how I looked — and sometimes it still is. After spending several years fighting toward freedom from the long-term effects of this insecurity — an eating disorder, unhealthy relationship, and so much more — I could finally breathe again…

and I thought insecurity was a thing of the past.

It was like I was dancing on a plateau and only looking down at how far I’d come, which was pretty striking:

  • no more guilt-ridden binges…
  • or obsessive calorie counting…
  • or ten times a day scale-stepping…

But I didn’t see how much farther I had to go.

This beautiful poem is written by a young woman I met this Spring named Dorissa. When she shared this with me, I thought it was so beautiful, and asked if I could share it with all of you. It offers hints of a fairytale coupled with learning to love the selves we’ve been given, and learning that we ourselves are lovable just as we are. 

In my room ready to be revealed

I look at myself

In the mirror I do not see it

I do not feel pretty

I do not feel beautiful

I see scars in my heart

From past regrets and decisions

Remembering them brings my eyes to water

But I hear the voices

Calling me down to show them myself
